The future: THOSE WHO WILL SERVE
Did you know that approximately 76% of young men and women trying to join the military are being denied? As an advocate for military readiness and a former serviceman, I want to bring attention to these critical issues so you don’t become a statistic like so many others.
According to a report by Mission: Readiness, nearly three-quarters of young Americans aged 17 to 24 are ineligible to join the military. This alarming statistic is primarily due to several key factors:
- Educational Deficiencies: Many young individuals fail to meet educational requirements. A significant number either lack a high school diploma or fail the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB), the test used to determine enlistment eligibility.
- Criminal Records or Drug Use: A criminal record or drug abuse disqualifies many young adults from military service. These factors heavily impact eligibility.
- Physical Fitness: Obesity and other physical health issues are major barriers to military entry. Many potential recruits do not meet the physical fitness standards required by the military.
As reported, 77% of American youth cannot qualify for military service due to these factors (Mission: Readiness Report).
Prepare for Success
Many future service members don’t realize the importance of preparation until it’s too late. To improve your chances of being accepted into the military, focus on these key areas:
- Graduate from high school
- Pass the ASVAB test
- Maintain physical fitness
- Avoid criminal activity and drug use
